The bridge between China and the world’s capital.
The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing in Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, is open 09:30–16:00 local time, with a lunch break 12:00–13:00, Monday to Friday. It pauses for lunch from 12:00 to 13:00. Today that is to in UTC.
When Hong Kong opens, liquidity in HKD rises; when it closes, it thins out. The hours when two big centres overlap — London with New York, Tokyo with Sydney — are when spreads are tightest and the large moves usually start. Book I of the ForeXistenZ trilogy teaches how to plan your day around these session hand-offs.
The regular session of HKEX runs 09:30–16:00 local time, with a lunch break 12:00–13:00 (Asia/Hong_Kong), Monday to Friday. It is closed on Hong Kong SAR public holidays. Opening and closing auctions are not included.
The live box on this page works it out from HKEX’s regular hours in Hong Kong time, so it is always current; it shows OPEN, LUNCH BREAK or CLOSED and when the next change comes. Public holidays are not shown.
The benchmark followed here is the Hang Seng. Its delayed public quote appears on this page.
Shares on HKEX are priced in HKD. A foreign investor buying them must first buy HKD, so heavy equity flows into Hong Kong SAR show up in the HKD exchange rate.
